Polished Orthoceras Fossil – 5.5–8.5 cm
Discover a special piece of prehistory with this beautifully polished Orthoceras fossil. The characteristic elongated shell and clearly recognizable chamber structure make this fossil a fascinating natural history object.
Orthoceras is a well-known trade name for fossils of extinct, straight-shelled cephalopods. These remarkable marine animals lived in the oceans hundreds of millions of years ago, long before the dinosaurs appeared. They were related to the modern nautilus and other cephalopods.
Their elongated shells consisted of separate chambers, divided by thin partitions. These distinctive structures have remained visible in the fossils and form a beautiful contrast with the dark surrounding rock.
Our Orthoceras fossils are carefully cut and polished, beautifully highlighting the natural details and distinctive chamber structures. The colors range from dark gray and black to light gray tones in the fossilized shell.
Measuring approximately 5.5 to 8.5 cm in length, these fossils make remarkable collectibles and stylish decorative natural pieces. Each specimen has its own unique shape, pattern, and state of preservation.
